Meeting Reminder

We will gather at OakStop’s Telegraph Gallery Room on Saturday, February 8th from 11-1, for a general meeting of Traffic Violence Rapid Response.

Address: 1721 Broadway! This is what it looks like:

Ring 202#, and someone will buzz you in!

We will

  • re-cap the timeline of recent months for traffic safety
  • People will brief us on projects they are leading that are looking for your participation
  • We will meet with, and ask questions of, Josh Rowan, Director of OakDOT.

In the second half, we’ll set the course for coming months, with a special focus on three topics: the Grand Avenue campaign, Ghost Bike and Ghost Pedestrian installations, and community traffic calming. Our collaborators, Walk Oakland Bike Oakland, will be represented by Chris Hwang, who will engage with us about how TVRR can help accelerate and expand the installation of traffic calming in places where communities identify their greatest needs. And we’ll organize teams specific to each Council District, to build relationships with our City Council.

Light snacks and drink will be available, but please plan to join us afterward for a walk/roll to lunch immediately afterward.

Action Alerts

The fight for Measure U is not, despite our progress in December, over yet. We will need everyone to speak up soon to their Council Member to focus on what’s important and push forward with bond sales to fund the work we all advocate for. As a first step, if you have not yet, please create your “engagement profile”, so we can more easily organize with people in each council district:

Also, the fight to “Make Grand Grand” is now heating up. What does this mean? The local business community, especially in Grandlake, is split on this project. Several advocates have started working together on a project to make sure we get the best, safest, most people-friendly design possible. Reply to rapid.revolt.team@gmail.com if you want to get started even before next Saturday. Emailing, collecting petition signatures, flyering, and other activities available.

OK, see you on the 8th!

Have a great week
